On the Road Again

Yesterday,Greta and I started our day at Sue-Meg State Park in Trinidad, CA. It was an early morning hike along a rugged, rocky coast line. We did not get all the way to the coast because we chose not cross a fresh mud slide created by the high tide.

On our way to Santa Rosa, CA we drove through the Avenue of Giants, which is a scenic drive through the redwoods. During the 4 hour drive we were enveloped in smoke the majority of the time. There are numerous fires burning in southern Oregon and Northern California. I was filled with gratitude for the brave women and men who fight wild fires. I drove past a couple of camps where firefighters were staying in tents and I was filled with gratitude. I cannot imagine fighting fires in extreme heat and not having any creaturely comforts at the end of one’s shift. Hats off to t.he brave people who put their life on the line fighting fires. Greta took a time lapse of the drive. Hold on it might make you dizzy.

We arrived at my cousin Pam’s home and were greeted by Pam, her husband Joe, their dog Lola, and my brother Eric who flew in from MN. They have a lovely home and Pam is an exceptional hostess who not only plans extravagant meals, but is also the ultimate tour guide. Before we went out for a delicious Italian dinner, we had a drink and hour d’oeuvres on their deck, as hummingbirds flitted about.

I am grateful to once again be surround with the comforts of home which will fortify me for the next stretch of the journey as Eric and I explore the National Parks in California and Utah.

I was looking forward to seeing my cousin, Polly and husband Mike. However, th eir son’s family has COVID, and to error on the side of caution, we decided not to get together this time.
