Beaches + Redwoods=A Fantastic Day
Any day that starts with a coffee in hand and toes in the sand is a great day
The Oregon coast is gorgeous. Brightly colored turquoise water, evergreens lining the shore, and jagged rock droppings breaking waves all add to the allurement. Every turn in the rolling switchbacks opened another lovely vista. The views of Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor were exceptional
Traveling south on Highway 101, the vast Pacific coast is on the right and the majestic Redwoods are on the left. Unfortunately, due to uncontrolled fires in the north end of Redwood National and State Park the park is closed to visitors. It is tragic as only 5% of the world’s old growth redwood forest remain and nearly half of that is in the Redwood National and State Park. None of the old growth redwoods have been impacted by the fires at this point.
These pictures give you a perspective of how huge the redwoods are. Look for Greta or Kris in each of the above pictures.
I was amazed that so many of the redwoods had been struck by lightening and yet continued to grow. Another interesting sight in the redwoods is “nurse logs” giving birth to new trees-from death comes life. The log on the forest floor provides a nurturing place for new growth. The circle of life.
We arrived at our quaint cottage in Trinidad. Colorful monks cross surrounded the deck where we listened to the waves crashing and sea lions barking-a perfect end to a fantastic day
P.S. Since Greta is not a camper, I am enjoying the comforts of a bed with sheets rather than a sleeping bag, a bathroom under the same roof, and meals set before me nicely plated.
