Psalm 121 Revisited

Psalm 121 is a psalm for sojourners, for people on a holy pilgrimage, a psalm for me as every step lands on holy ground.

I lift up my eyes

In my sauntering I look up and see the glory of God glimmering in the morning sun

I lift up my eyes to the  tops,

steadfast, sturdy, ever present

I lift up my eyes and I see God

my Help, my Creator, my Rock

My footing is not always certain

I have slipped

I have fallen

But the steadfast  God of the mountains has been

present and patient in my stumblings

I trust that God will remain

just as the mountains

I trust that God will be a faithful presence

just as the rising of the sun sun and moon

I trust God will be with me

through perils unknown,

through paths yet untrodden,

through ventures not yet taken

I trust that God will be with me

in my going out and in my coming home

from this time forth and always

Today I left the village with sadness. It was refreshing to be with people, to have a break from driving, to relish the memories of 47 years ago, to be immersed in the sacred space of Holden.

The journey continues. Next stop Mount Rainier.
