Winding Roads and Wondering Minds

I have listened to more of Between Two Worlds. The author, Suleika Jaouad, writes about the road trip she embarks on to help her figure out how to move from the Kingdom of Illness back into the Kingdom of Wellness. There were several relatable phrases that caught my attention: the monotony of driving becomes meditative, the mind unwrinkles, day dreams flit in, whisks of an idea appear out of nowhere, and occasionally an avalanche of memories tumble forth.

My mind is like a butterfly flitting from one flower to another. Sometimes a scene reminds me of camping in my youth and the avalanche of memories is filled with fun times with my siblings; playing in streams, meeting kids in the campground that talk with a Texan drawl, or watching dad trying to catch a tarantula while mom insists he cannot take it home.

At other times I think about family member or friends who have died. Sometimes the memories bring tears and at other times they bring joy.

As the scenery passes I think about my future and reflect on the pass.

Frequently I am so moved by the beauty that gratitude fills my mind and heart and there is no room for wandering, random thoughts.

Today I spent time in the magic of the Hoho Rain Forest. It felt like I had entered into another world, like CS Lewis’ world of Narnia. Swaying in the breeze, mammoth trees creaked like knees climbing to the top of the trail. Moss clung to everything. Dead trees nursed new seedlings to life. It was enchanting.

I have not seen much wildlife in Olympic National Park
